Good but not great

Great combination of electro-industrial and industrial rock with other experimental genres like IDM, ambient, and glitch.
But I wonder why Nivek Ogre doesn't scream, shout, and growl in this music. Isn't industrial music characterized by screamed, shouted and growled vocals, or is it just aggrotech and industrial metal?
I like quality aggrotech better than regular electro-industrial.

This is probably the best Skinng Puppy album of the new millennium. It has all the old school synths and vocal effects of the group's earlier releases. At the same time, it ends up be a fairly easy listen, in that you could play it in front of your parents and they wouldn't start twitching... at least not too much. Favorite tracks are "Solvent" and "Tsudanama".
Skinny Puppy Weapon is old school sound

Amazing job bringing back the iconic emotional drone of Industrial music. Great album. I would guess a few humans were conceived while listening to this album :)
Thank you Skinny Puppy.

I am a huge fan of skinny puppy and have been since the 80s. I had collected all of their albums up into somewhere in the 90s when I moved on to other things, especially as the bands punch seemed to be winding down,"which is normal with age" . I slid through the songs of this album waiting to hear a true glimpse of the classic grainy insanity, "with all of the movie clips and chainsaws"that skinny puppy was loved for by the artistic dark sided goths of the time but sadly I heard none of it, what I heard was a cheap artificial imitation of skinny puppy with the electronic drum beats sounding more artificial then they did even back in the 80s "which any lover of electronic industrial was willing to overlook for sake of progress and innovation. I'm not even sure that the members calling themselves skinny puppy now are even the original artists which in my opinion means everything!!!! since skinny puppy came from the minds of the original artists . i'm not one of those people that thinks that a band can simply replace their lead vocalist and go on calling themselves by the same name, if one member of the band changes then the whole sound of the band, mood and creation has changed and they should therefore call themselves by another name . sadly the time of beautiful ,artistic ,romantic Goth is gone! only to be replaced by a synthetic imitation by a generation trying to imitate what they think it was, with that said this album did not work for me, It was just to clean and plastic.
No song stands out

I can never give Skinny Puppy a rating below 3 stars- their albums are too talented.
However, Weapon is not a stand out album to me. All the songs are solid and well thought out but not one single song stands out from the others.
HanDover had Ahsas, Gambatte, Icktums; Mythmaker had Pedifly, etc... Weapon doesn't have a song that lifts the senses to a euphoric but dark level like all the other Skinny Puppy albums do.
I compare this album to Front Line Assembly's latest Echogrnetic- bland but well made.
I recommend this album to SP fans simply because it is still adding Weapon to your collection. But, I miss the edge that top notch SP songs display.
Oh yeah!

I’ve been a fan and follower of Skinny Puppy for going on 30 years and this offering shows that they have never been better. This far in for a fan such as myself to say that their latest offering, Weapon, has produced two of my all-time favorite SP tracks (Wornin’ , Paragun) is a testament in itself. At 50, I took my 18 yr old son to see them when they recently played Detroit. Fantastic! I’ve seen them 10 times over the years and they have never looked or sounded better!!!

I have been following Skinny Puppy since the beginning. I have to say that Weapon is one of their best records and, without a doubt, their best since VIVISECTVI. The last couple of releases have been good but in a very almost soundtrack kind of way. Very flowing and structured (although still dark as can be). This record rocks like they haven't in a while. If you have been a long-time fan you'll love it. If you're just getting into them this is a good place to start as well.
