These are not the popular pop-rock songs that you will hear on Christian radio. Far from it. These two songs are melancholy and honest. Oh My God eloquently lists off nearly every sin of the human race and Light Gives Heat is about Africa, the AIDS crisis, and the west's wrong response to these issues. Not light stuff; however, as a HUGE fan of JOC I can honestly say that those two songs alone are up there in the top ten Jars Of Clay songs and could easily be in the top 5 songs. I first heard Light Gives Heat at 11 years old and, even then, knowing nothing of the meaning of the song, something about it moved me near to tears. The same is true of today. As for the rest of the album its certainly not bad but it's definitely not as good as some of their other albums. Listen for yourself though. And if you buy nothing else, buy light gives heat and oh my God.

Jars of Clay said this was their first 'rock album'. I remember thinking, 'well, then what do you call Much Afraid, or The Eleventh Hour?' But they weren't kidding. And while some of their older songs are brilliant, Good Mosnters may just win first prize for brilliance. Songs like Work, Dead Man and Oh My God have proved to live on as some of their best work. I personally think Surprise and Light Gives Heat are two the best songs they have ever written.

Their old stuff sucked in my opinion. Music is about self expression and I thought that them and their music was just fake like most of their followers. I know I'm being really offensive right now, but I'm being honest so that you will understand when I say that this album is one of the greatest works of music I have ever heard. After listening to this album for years, the song Oh My God still brings me to tears. Thank you for writing this wonderfully honest and beautiful album. Good monsters is the only Christian music that I can even tolerate, and I wouldn't know what to do without it.
