By Far The Best Christmas-Themed Album Ever! Best Tracks were Love Came Down, Hibernation Day, & Drummer Boy. -Love How They included Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime!
  • A great modern take on some classics

I really enjoyed Jars of Clay's take on some Christmas classics. They do a good job of taking traditional tunes from the holidays and putting a good "Jars" type spin on them. They really emphasize the meaning of the holiday and the spirituality of Christ's birth that makes your heart lift. Well done Jars!
  • REVISED: NOT Monotone and Robotic

I feel compelled to revise my original review. Last year I had an "off" Christmas where the traditional Christmas music annoyed me. I listened to this A LOT last year and REALLY enjoyed it. If you're feeling in the mood for the traditional, this might not be for you, but if you love all things Christmas and have a year where all the other stuff is annoying, this is a good album. I apologize Jars of Clay, for my previous unenthused review. PREVIOUS REVIEW: Jars of Clay has the potential to write a good Christmas album, but this wasn't their best effort. It sounds like they're trying too hard to break from the traditional melodies, resulting in monotone songs that lack structure.

I love Christmas albums that have a slightly different twist and this album fits right into that catagorie for me. I would not expect anythig else from Jars of Clay. Thanks guys for a totally enjoyable album to help us celebrate and appreciate even more, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! KESR...~~
  • A must for a Christmas music collection

In their first album under their own label, Jars of Clay serves up a delightful set of mostly unknown Christmas songs highlighting their trademark fragility. Unexpectedly mixing Paul McCartney (Wonderful Christmastime, the gentlest version of that song ever) and Christina Rossetti poems (Love Came Down and Gabriel's Message) with traditional Christmas Carols (O Little Town of Bethlemhem, God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen) with lots of sweet surprises in between, Jars' long-awaited Christmas album is at the top of my Christmastime playlist. This is my favorite version ever of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and I have fallen in love with "Peace is Here". If you can only buy one song, though, buy "Love Came Down At Christmas." At first I hated the album art, but it's grown on me in time. I think it's because it kind of captures a child's view of Christmas, with an awkwardly put together cover featuring two oddly-drawn children against a subdued wrapping-paper background, with a random star in the center. While this might not be their best album by musical standards, I think that this is the album that defines Jars of Clay. The fragile sound, the variety, their mix of traditional and unknown plus two of their own songs collect the best of everything they've ever done in one album and show Jars for what they are - a Christ-committed, frail little band that just happens to have made it to the top.

I love this album! Talk about a music group that can balance respect for the Christmas songs themselves and staying true to their group's "sound"! I would highly recommend this album.
  • Great relaxing album

This is a great album to have playing in the background with a nice fire around Christmas time. The songs are not ones that I've heard before, but the music is really relaxing and nice. I enjoy it often during Christmastime and occasionally throughout the year too!
  • One of the best!...?

You can't argue that this is one of the coolest new xmas albums that have been released in a long time. You can seriously put it on and chill in fornt of the fireplace (which we have done!). I like the fact that they did a few traditional songs (however....made them sound SO NEW and enjoyable!) and they had some really good covers and original material all mixed in. AND go see them do the album live.....even better....saw them last year! Go Jars!! I'd like to say hey do another one....but don't do one just to do one. Let it came from the heart fellas!

This is my favorite Christmas album. Its mix of classic songs that have sometimes been changed to almost unreconizable conditions, along with a few new ones sprinkled in here and there. A welcome break from your average holiday tunes without being over-the-top pop.

We won this album in a local radio contest, and it is now my absolute favorite Christmas CD we own! The new takes on classic carols are wonderful! My favorites on the album would be "Drummer Boy" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". but "Christmas Time is Here" puts an amazing spin on the Charlie Brown Classic. This album is completely worth it, unless you don't like a few of the slower songs, in which case i would recommend buying only the ones that are more upbeat, as a few on here stay at the same pace throughout the entire song.
