This album is simply amazing. If you like 80's music, or real music at all, then get this already. Echo & The Bunnymen are awesome.

I read an interview with my favorite skater(duane peters) back in 82 in which he cited "i go to sleep listening to Echo & the Bunnymen. If he meant he liked them as much as punk, didn`t matter,he mentioned em so i sought em out.Picked up Ocean Rain and it was over..the greatest album next to Never mind the Bollocks, heres the sex pistols. I`m going to see the boys play the entire album with an orchestra tonite. It`s gonna be awesome!

Ocean rain is a great album, that shows what a great artist realy is. I love Echo, and this is a masterwork album. The killing moon is right on time.
  • Good album - but Porcupine is better

Ian's claim that this was the "greatest album of all time" was a bit misplaced. It was not even the best album of 1984 (see The Smiths, "The Smiths"), and in my opinion their best effort is the little heralded Porcupine, which preceded this one by one album. I listed to that one may times in high school (yes, I'm that old . . . ). Worth having though, particularly if you like this band.

listen to this and hear the sound of some liverpudlians being ripped off by their dublin counterparts U2. kind of. that sounds aggressive but it's true. U2's the edge has acknowledged his debt to will sergeant -- EATB's guitarist. it's very obvious here. mac was always a cooler and more expressive vocalist than bono. he just lacked bono's insane drive and world view. bono (and u2) had much bigger ambitions than echo and the bunnymen. and the cookie crumbled the way it did. u2 were ultimately the better band. dublin 1, liverpool 1.
  • Truly A Masterpiece...

An epic soundscape of lush strings, chiming guitars, haunting vocals and one of the best drum performances ever recorded, "Ocean Rain" could be called the "Sgt. Pepper's" of the 1980's. From the opening chord of Silver to the soaring finale of Ocean Rain, this recording does not disappoint. I was lucky enough to catch the 'Bunnymen twice on this tour in 1985 and can attest to the power and musicianship of these lads from Liverpool. It certainly brings to mind another four-piece who stormed the American shore 20 years before. While much more produced than previous releases, Ocean Rain maintains the dark, moody sound that fans had come to expect up to this point. Of course, the showstopper is The Killing Moon, but I encourage listeners to dig deep and discover the tribal rhythms of Thorn of Crowns, the glimmer of Crystal Days and the subtle picking and brush work between guitarist Will Seargant and drummer Pete De Freitas on My Kingdom. If I was trapped on a desert island and had only one 'Bunnymen album to listen to, this would certainly be it. As Ian sings in the title track..."Your port in my heavy storm...harbors the blackest thoughts". Yea, it's sorta like that.

This Album is an icon of what so many of 80's youth held to be true of what a college rock album should sound like. From The Killing Moon to Thorn of Crowns this recording is unyielding and true to the roots from which Ian McCulloch and Will Sargeant came. This album set a standard that even they could not hold true beyond their next major release. Echo and the Bunnymen should be on any post punk's fan list of must haves.
  • A must have album to add to any 80's intellectual punk collection

Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain is a must have album for the collector of 80's intellectual punk bands. The album has both lyrical depth and musical range as well as solid song crafting. I listened to them back in the day and the music still holds its crisp ability to transport the listener to its own world of icy coolness.
  • One of the 80's must-have albums!

Ocean Rain is haunting, atmospheric, and seductive. It is music you can get lost in and some of the best that emerged from the 1980s. I saw Echo and the Bunnymen in concert in a "hole-in-the-wall" club in Dublin Ireland in 1984 where they played this entire album. It was hands down the most powerful, absorbing concert I've ever attended (Kitaro is the only exception, but that's a different genre). All of my senses were captivated and time truly felt suspended - all was music. Beautiful!
