This albums continues to grow on me after all these years. The Cutter is one of the greatest Echo songs. If you have ever heard it live it is like getting caught up in a huge wave. I recommend the extended album version which includes Never Stop, another favorite. You can't go wrong with this album. If you are going to buy just one album, this is the one.
  • Their best (non-greatest hits) album!

Probably the deepest, most sonically expressive album from the Bunnymen. For a long time only available as an import, this album should be the second album any fan explores...after they get the greatest hits out of their system. Truly one of the greatest bands to emerge from the 80's, but too under appreciated. Without Ian they were good (Reverberation), Ian on his own was great, and even after the reformation they were good (Evergreen). Enjoy this album, lyrics are awesome.
  • E&TB's Masterpiece - Amazing Even Today

I very clearly remember the first time I heard the opening strains of 'The Cutter' at a friend's house in the 80's (thanks Jeff). I was amazed then. I still am. This music can still give me goosebumps, and I must have listened to it 1,000 times by now. If you're new to E&TB, it's likely that you won't dig some of the tunes on first listen, but repeated listening will certainly pay off. PLAY IT LOUD.
  • THIS is their "masterpiece"!

Ocean Rain is a great album but Porcupine is the Bunnymen at their creative best. There is a guitar "strike" in "Clay" at about 3:21 into the song. IMO the greatest sound to ever be played... I simply love this album, note for note, the best.

This band is amazing! They had some of the greatest ablums of all time and continue to release good music today! Along with Ocean Rain, this is one of my all time favorite albums. Brilliant. 5 out of 5. Coz

This is definitely the best album the Bunnymen ever made and one of the best albums of the last 30 years. It amazes me that critics mostly panned it when it came out in '83. I have a feeling that if this album had come out recently (post-Radiohead) that wouldn't be the case and more people would be aware of how great this album is. If you are looking for an album that has true substance, then look no further than Porcupine, it is a true masterpiece.

19 years old: Thousands of miles from home. Got assigned to my "dream duty", a fast attack submarine from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Hazy day led to a hazy night... Ended up somewhere near U of H's campus, in a nowhere bar after wandering from bar to bar... smoke, heavy ceilings, low, bass pumping a girl dancing barefoot on the floor The Cutter, it doesn't get any better than that.
  • Post-Punk Greatness

Simply one of the most amazing Post-Punk albums ever created. I remember when I first bought it (having never heard the Bunnymen at that point, I was originally debating between it and something else), and was truly shocked from the start of what an amazing album it is. I kicked myself for a week for not giving the Bunnymen a chance sooner simply because of this album. If you don't buy the whole thing (you should, every song on here is truly worth hearing and the album is just that much better when listened to start to finish) then I highly recommend: "The Cutter" "My White Devil" "Porcupine" "Higher Hell" The title track, "Porcupine" being simply amazing in my opinion.

This is one of my all time fave albums from my HS days back in the 80's. Absolute classic. Many fans turn to Ocean Rain as their best (and it's great) but this is my personal favorite. A complex musical tension underlies the entire album. The title track is nearly a perfect song.
