Wil should have just started anew band at this point! Charismatic Ian was gone! Peter’s death(27 club)! Good record but pale to anything prior ! Like The Cure without Smith!!
  • Better than some of Ian's solo records

Yeah it's a bit jarring to hear someone other than Ian singing, but the real problem with the album wasn't the vocals, it was the weakness of the material. Half of it is great and half of it, well more on that in a bit. Will and Ian aren't Lennon and McCartney, but they feed off each other and without Ian here Will is in complete control. As such he really couldn't come up with a full album worth of great songs (and neither could Ian) and there is a huge 13th Floor Elevators influence here (the title track especially) that Ian would have lessened. That influence is actually what makes it a good listen. It's certainly more in the Echo & The Bunnymen vein than any of the Electrfixion releases.
  • This is not an Echo & The Bunnymen withou Ian.

I don't care what reviewers and fans say about this album. This is NOT an Echo & The Bunnymen album without Ian. The entire band should have sat this one out and waited for Ian's return. Or they should have recorded this album under a different name.
  • Beautiful psychedelia!

This is one of the best albums from the end of the 20th century. Rhythmic and psychedelic with Edwardian vocals. Just look past the fact that Ian does not appear on this album and let the work stand on it's own. The production is top notch. What a wild ride!

Great haunting melodies as you'd come to expect from the Bunnymen. Pulsing tempos On Gone, Gone, Gone are timeless.
  • Why did it take so long?

Have been waiting to download this since I got an iPhone. Every tune is great. King of Your Castle is the best. Given how Ian doesn't appear on any song this album I think shows just how good the rest of the band was in working with another singer.
