Really wonderful album. I've long wondered, though, why two tracks that I think would be particularly good for live orchestral arrangement/performance have never gotten this treatment, at least not to my knowledge: the battle theme from Final Fantasy VII (Fighting? Those Who Fight? I'm not sure...) and the theme from the invasion of Dollett (and later, Balamb Garden) in Final Fantasy VIII. Melodically, they're both Hollywood action blockbuster theme material. Hopefully someday Uematsu or someone else will give them the orchestral awesomeness they deserve. But again, what's already here is great.

It's called 20020220 because the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed this on February 20, 2002, which is 2002/02/20. Oh, and beautiful music, of course :)

This is the best Final Fantasy compilation you can get on itunes. The best of FF. aerith's theme is great! teh person was able to keep nobuo's original compositions while redoing them at the same time perfectly. why is called 20020220 though?

Dont get me wrong, I like the origional version of One Winged angel, but iTunes should have the metal version from the Advent Children.

It truly astounds me that such amazing music came from a videogame. It may be my history with the videogames but every song on this album seems to touch my heart in just a little way. Nobuo Uematsu is an amazing composer I really must see more of his work because if it's anything like this I may have to start a cult for him (kidding) =)

Nobuo Uematsu is the John Williams of video game music. He composes music that runs the gamut from spiritual, deeply and emotionally moving to heavy, rocking and aggressive. Whatever he comes up with, he always finds some truly inspired theme that provides the driving force for whatever video game he is making music for. Even on the 16 bit and even 8 bit Nintento consoles, this music sounded beautiful. Now today we get it all in all its wondrous glory, unhindered by technical limitations and somehow it's better than ever. This music, whether it's from Final Fantasy 1, 7 or ten, is epic in nature and is worthy of being the music for the biggest and most prestigious Hollywood films.

For a few years, I've been waiting for a Final Fantasy collection like this one. Although the majority of its pieces come from more recent Fantasies (VII and beyond), the few from the beginnings of the series can still transport listeners to the world of Final Fantasy. Uematsu's musical contribution to the popular video games have brought it to such a level that one need not to have played a specific Final Fantasy to appreciate it. Purchase this collection for the number and quality of pieces it offers. And what a better way to end a Final Fantasy album than with the original FINAL FANTASY score?
  • What a waste of money...

I don't know what it is but man...these Final Fantasy albums are truly a hit and miss thing. Some are great but most are just bland and useless, like this one. You'd be better off just going to Overclocked Remix and getting your FF fix. I can;t believe I bought this album.
