This is the original FF soundtrack before all that stand before us today :,) i grew up with the NES and still have it! I love that game and every other FF game that has come out so far. This is like a time machine back to the way things started off. I'm amazed by this..

First of all, think about how much work people had put into making this type of sound so that music could be fit into the small memory of old video games. To several people it may sound like a bunch of beeps and annoying sounds, but it's what they had to work with. Although I do admit it would be nice to see the remastered versions of these songs on iTunes, this Original Soundtrack needs to be on here as well. As for the people who ask why anyone would listen to or buy this music, one reason is so composers like myself can study their compositional techniques down to the nitty gritty, from the very original scores, as well as the newer versions too, of course. At least that's how I use this music. To study the music by any composer, it's essential to listen not just to a few songs here and there, but especially to his or her earliest works to see how their music has evolved. And then of course one of the other big reasons is the nostalgia it brings. :) Anyways, I'm sorry if I seem like I'm droning on and on lol. This is a great album and look at the price! Six bucks! That's how much I pay for lunch. What a deal! :) This is the basis on great RPG music.

Some people may be disappointed that these aren't rearranged versions done with orchestration and everything, but are actually the original NES chiptunes. I'm sure they may sound grating to certain ears (especially younger ones), but there are those of us who grew up with these sounds and appreciate their nostalgic appeal. I only wish that iTunes would hurry up and start carrying iTunes Plus versions. (Granted, these songs might not sound any better, but at least there wouldn't be that naggling DRM.)

I find it pretty cool and refreshing that a older/classic video game soundtrack like this one made its way on to iTunes, although the Final Fantasy series seems to be the only one I noticed to be available so far (Nintendo, how about the Super Mario Bros series? Capcom, Rock/Mega Man?). I can understand why video game soundtracks haven't been readily available in shops at your usual retailers, but with iTunes there isn’t much reason for them not to be available anymore. Uematsu’s score is classic, although for some it may be difficult to fully appreciate in its form, but would you really have it any other way than the original? I grew up playing (and before that, watching it being played before I was old enough to play it myself) the original Final Fantasy and have many memories, this music being a great part of it. In fact, I don’t believe there is a piece of music that has been more played in my life than the “Battle” theme when I think of it. The only complaints I have is that the jingle/fanfare that plays when you achieve a milestone in the game is not present (the “Save” one is), and the “End Theme” should have a hard ending, not fade out. Otherwise, this is nicely done and recommended for people have memories and can say the original Final Fantasy is a classic in their books. Otherwise, it may not be for you given it was intended for 8-bit Famicom/NES hardware.
  • Although the songs are brief, they are still nice

I wonder if video game music like this led to electronica... Anyways, these songs are probably good for fans of the series. But not all people will really enjoy it. I myself am a Final Fantasy Fan (FFF!), but the low quality of the tracks makes this somewhat less disirable. It is still a classic video game album, but i don't really enjoy it that much.

A part of Final Fantasy's glory is the music. Nobuo Uematsu writes so beautifully, and this is just another example of his great work.

I love it! Classic Final Fantasy, yay! My favorite is the Prelude, its the song that defines FF for me. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because the songs are so short. Sure the price tag is low, but still.

This music is difficult to write an objective review about: it's simplistic, its produced with tones and well... it can't compete when you're looking for the sound of a full orchestra or a perfectly tuned guitar. This was some of Nobuo Uematsu's earliest work and is the first appearance of many of the songs that we love so much from later games. They might be a little more primitive, but they still sound very good, and a few might even surprise you. While most may purchase this album for nostalgia, curiosity or just a dare, I hope and believe they get their money's worth with the soundtrack from the very first Final Fantasy.

It's not for people if they want to listen to the orchestrated music that the Final Fantasy series is known for today, but rather, this soundtrack is the original score for the first Final Fantasy. While it is a bit primitive, it has a bit of catchy tunes in it, and while I might think someone strange for blasting something like this in their car, it is a very nice soundtrack and is something that people that have played the first game back when it was released should buy.
